Here's what getting me through this dripping-wet, monochromatic day. May 1st in Toronto. How 'bout you? Booze?
My cousin sent me a link to this incredible photo series. It stopped me in my tracks. Concrete spaceships? Nope. These are abandoned Communist monuments scattered all over the territory of former Yugoslavia.
This blogging adventure has been a hugely positive and rewarding experience, so I was really intrigued by this project by a fellow travel blogger from Todd's Wanderings.
Over the years I've lost and found this book countless times, and since it is often released in four volumes, I have picked up various ones in strange places and read them in different languages.
Here are the travel-focused Etsy items I'm coveting, for home and away.
The Hindu Festival of Colours, Holi absolutely blows my mind. It's like kaleidoscopic heaven! The event has deep historical roots in Hindu mythology, and is meant to represent the triumph of good over evil.
The Zeeland (meaning sea-land) area of the lowlands plays out like a fairytale. Just peer in any window and you'll find lace curtains, clogs, porcelain kitten figurines and bouquets of wildflowers.
A round-up of desserts from my childhood in Serbia. I can still get my hands on a few of them, and often just the crinkling of the wrapper is enough to trigger a flood of memories.
"We used trains, buses, taxis, cars and on a few occasions even walked those 12,000 km separating Serbia and end point of our trip, Nepal. This adventurous journey turned out to be life changing experience.
We set sail for Oia, world famous for its sunsets. The best (but slightly heartbreaking) part was the long and slow donkey ride to reach the top of the cliffs with fantastic views.
We stayed in Paia, on Maui’s north shore, a one-intersection hippy/surfer town with boasts lots of cute bars and an amazing surfing beach.
Picture this: cliffs dotted with hundreds of puffins at Dyrholay, surrounded by black sand beaches and ocean as far as the eye can see.
A long, but entertaining, bus ride took us an hour out of town to see the Montmorency Falls, but frankly I was more into the view of the Saint Lawrence river and the nearby ice cream parlour.
Believe it or not we did about 6 weeks worth of tango lessons (a gift). We were way too embarrassed to unleash our skills on the unsuspecting locals, but it made us appreciate the intricacies of what we saw.
If you know me well, you're probably sick of hearing me talk about this epic trip, it's just that I'm yet to find someone who is committed to boarding this train with me.
