"Winter makes a bridge between one year and another"
Mr. Andy Goldsworthy is an artist whose work I revisit often. Especially when I’m feeling consumed by a season (see view from our window above). Goldsworthy’s relationship with nature is intimate and spontaneous. He sees himself as an integral part of his environment and works with whatever materials abound—sometimes this means making spectacular icicle stars joined by spit! The sculptures only exists for a brief time—highlighting the impermanent quality of nature—and transforming as they are absorbed back into their surroundings. As a freelancer, I spend much of my day in my home studio. And have to constantly remind myself to see my endless indoor time as a sort of creative hibernation, to accept and draw inspiration from the frost on my windows instead of seeing it as a cage.
Art is good, whiskey helps too. ;) How are you guys coping?
Below are images from my copy of "A Collaboration with Nature" (wrapped in a blanket).
