We checked into Resort Allegro Papagayo by Occidental. I thought we’d be getting a slightly more eco-friendly experience since it was located in a nature reserve. Not so. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s been shut-down several time by conservationists for various violations. Saving grace? Wildlife! Iguanas, birds, capuchin and howler monkeys. (Warning: don’t feed them, even though many do, you can wipe out entire populations by spreading human diseases to them).
The dry season on the north Pacific shore of Costa Rica is hot, hot hot! It’s best to stay
within reach of the beach and a fruity cocktail at all times. A light skirt that
responds to even the smallest of breezes keeps you cool, and it’s easy to move in—
for those impromptu ping-pong tournaments. But if you plan on venturing into the
rain forests (you should!) breathable, waterproof shoes and rainwear are a good idea.
